Have you by any chance recently worked on the spark plugs or ignition system?
The Atomic 4 is able to run quite well at idle even if the spark plug wires are not in the proper firing sequence.
They should be 1-2-4-3.
My other thought is perhaps all you need is a tune-up. Timing will effect power and a bad condenser will give you a very weak spark.
Also make sure the advance weights in the distributor are clean and able to move freely.
