Thanks for the reply. Sounds like you're getting to the water pump by coming over the front of the engine. In my case, I cut an opening in the cockpit sole and installed an 11 x 23 access hatch, so I was coming from behind.

I eventually asked a friend for help and he used a hammer and cold chisel to turn the bolt, which leaves the question of how to reinstall the rebuilt water pump.

I understand that there are some over-length bolts available that get the bolt head beyond the housing, and I may try to acquire one of those for the lower bolt.

Story's not over-when the pump is back in and running I'll post a wrap up.
