With 35 hours on my A-4 this year, and after being away for 9 days. I came back to frozen engine. OUCH! Tried all the easy stuff before we pulled the engine.
What we discoved was that #3 was running hopt with salt water.... and the piston is really ugly looking.
The choice! Rebuild and lose the rest of the summer? Find a used running A-4 and drop it in?
Buy a new diesel?
I could not find a good used diesel, but I did find a running A-4 Humm new diesel for 5 to 7 grand or used A-4 for one grand?
I went fr the one grand solution. So now I have 2 Atomic 4s. I will rebuild one in the basement this winter.
I may still shop for a diesel, but now I can do it at my leasure... int he meantime I have spare!
Ask me this winter if i made a good choice.
