Hi Bruce, I have a 73 A4 and the regulator is built in on the back of the alternator, I have never seen it any other way. If you need a complete alternator Boats US has them for about $150.00 complete. If you want to get just the regulator try Moyer Marine, they might have one. I would go for the whole thing as if one goes the other's not far behind.
