Subject:   voltage regulator replacement

Message Posted

Need one (1) voltage regulator for Motorola alternator. It seems my (1976?) Motorola 12V,35 amp alternator model MR12N451D, voltage regulator is malfunctioning and I'm searching for a replacement for just the voltage regulator (R7-1 ?) not the entire alternator.
Problem: after first starting the atomic four engine it ran fine for about 10 minutes then shutdown. It would restart but shut down again in less then 2 minutes. After that I had to wait a significant length of time before it could be restarted. Than only to repeat the process.
It was found with a lot of trial an error the voltage regulator pigtail lead to the ignition coil was going to ground after the designate period of time. Disconnecting the pigtail lead from the voltage regulator and the engine would run fine without shuting down but alas without voltage regulation. Anyone have a good voltage regulator or know where I can locate a replacement?
