Hi Pete,
Are you talking about gas fumes coming from your A-4 while motoring? There should not be any fumes. If it is crankcase gases, there is a vent hose that rests nearly on top of the spark arrestor. Normally the suction from the carb. will pull those gases out, resulting in no smell. My A-4 does not smell. I have made certain that there are no fuel leaks (anywhere). Blower hoses should be located such that they pick up any bilge fumes that might be there prior to starting the motor. As low as possible.
