Could be worse, A friend of mine dropped a couple herring in his pals raingear pocket which went behind the seat of his pickup for too long. I did my pipe with galvanized also. No wrap for a while, a lot of heat and the blower was on all the time but it would still vapor lock from heat. I planned on wrapping it but was just lazy, want to sail the new boat. It was bad. next time I will use black pipe. I know about welding galvanized. It lasted for about , oh 10 engine hours guessing. The wrap did not smell but I used some old asbostes and that stuff you get wet and it looks like uncle louie's broken leg. I would guess it will go away. Mine did not smell too bad but I was afraid of the vapor so I kept it well vented.
