Misery loves company. I'm trying to fix the very same problem and I'm getting close.
I have a C&C 3/4Ton, and I recently had someone in our club tell me of a feathering prop that fixes our common problem, but havn't located who carries it. (I'm told they cost $1,000 or so - they're just giving 'em away.)
As an alternative, I'm currently looking to find a prop shaft extension to move the prop 3 to 4 inches further back behind the skeg. I'm told this is the root of the problem because the prop is so close to the skeg it cavitates when the water is thrown against it.
The reason the feathering prop fixes the problem is because when it unfolds, it unfolds to a position that is almost 6 inches to the rear of the position currently occupied by my fixed 2-bladed prop. (My prop is casting is currently located just 1" behind the skeg bearing.)
If you want to talk further on the subject, call me at 440-734-9600. We really chould compare notes.
