After installing a new thermostat, I noticed a leak coming from the housing area. I turned off the engine, tighten the nuts to the housing studs, turned on the engine, more leaking. I decided to take the hoses and housing off and start over, check the gasket, but realized that I had overtighened the rear nut and while trying to loosen it, rounded it off pretty good. I have tried penetrating oil and let it sit for a few hours...nothing. I used a 6 pt socket, which is what I rounded it with, and I seem to be able to "get a grip" with a 9/16 wrench, but I don't have the torque to turn it. Am I at the stage where I have to hack saw the nut off? Can this be done and still save the stud? (My worry is that the stud is rusted and won't come out) Is there a sealant that I could use as a quick fix to this problem that would get me though the season? Any ideas are welcome!
