After replacing the water pump on my A4, I started the engine and the area just beyond the mounting flange which houses the impeller shaft heated up
and (I believe) caused the seal to fail.I was told
by the local marina when installing the pump not to
tighten the mounting bolts completly initially.Snug
them up gently, start the engine to allow the shaft to "find it's own center" and fully tighten after this occurs.Iam going to give a try this weekend.
