Subject:   Vintage Universal Four

Hi there.

I recently purchased from an estate sale a freshwater-use-only Universal Utility Four model BNM engine and transmission, pickled nicely and in good storage for years. The gentleman's son said his dad had both it and the Kermath Sea Twin I bought running as little as 5 years ago before they were stored. I got it home, checked it over (seems complete except for the missing coil) and it turns over like silk, making great compression. The cap/rotor/points seem brand new, but the wires are done from age.

Can anyone tell me what it's worth running? I'd like to see someone who's restoring a vintage boat end up with it. As a collector, I know it can be tough to find a good complete repower for an old boat. From the serial number (38271) and from what I've read so far in "The History Of The Atomic Four" about the BN series of engines, I'm guessing it's a '38. If anyone could confirm/correct me on that it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks for an informative board, great work all. :)

James
