I've been reading quite a lot on the list about stalling problems with other people's A-4s. I hope that this can help someone. My motor used to run and the stall after sometimes revving and sometimes slowing down all by itself. Sometimes it would run for an hour or more, sometimes only 5 minutes or so. Sometimes it would start right up after stalling, sometimes it seemed to need to cool down. I had pretty much every symptom I've read about om this list! I tried everything from checking for gas in the throat of the carb, to installing new everything on the ignition side (points, condensor, rotor, cap, wires, coil, plugs). Having fuel and spark I even checked compression. All cylinders are between 90 and 98 I'm glad to say! Sorry I got a bit long with this...you should hear me talk! Finally I resorted to ether. I don't suggest this but it seemed my last resort. The engine fired, then immediately stalled. I then drenched the carb. with carburator cleaner. Finally she started with no assistance (ether). With my engine running pretty fast I misted carb cleaner into the throat. Then I slowed her to idle speed and did the same thing. After using a whole can in this fashion, I ran the engine hard to make sure anything on the plugs would burn off.Mystery solved!! My A-4 runs perfectly again and now I don't have to tune it up in the spring!!
