Barry, closing the seacock when you leave the boat would prevent a water leak in the cooling system from sinking your boat, nothing less... It is strongly advised to close your seacocks whenever you leave the boat unnatended for a prolonged amount of time. The same goes for the seacock for the head if you have a raw water system.
