Remove the flame arrestor and make sure that the choke is opening all the way.
Removing the carburetor is relatively easy. It is connected to the intake manifold by either 2 nuts on studs or 2 bolts (depending on your individual engine).
Carefully, disconnect the fuel line, scavenger tube (little copper tube connected to the bottom of the carburetor), and choke and throttle cables. Unscrew the nuts or bolts on the manifold...you're done!
I highly recommend that you invest $50.00 in a Moyer Manual available at moyermarine.com. It will be the best $50.00 you'll ever spend!
