I just removed my head last week.
In Don Moyer's book he suggests removing the studs before you take off the head and lots of good penetrating oil. Also with the nut on the stud tap the stud back and forth.
The studs at my thermostat were paticularly reluctant to allow the head to be removed. i used much oil tapped them with the nut - really helped - and spent a few hours at it.
I took an old 1 inch spade bit and ground it into a sharpened end chisel shape. This when used as a wedge gave a wide surface and worked well to start the head off.
In retrospect, I would buy a stud remover and take out the studs as Don Moyer suggests. This would save hours of tapping since the head would then come off immediately. Studs, at least with the remover I bought, would be ruined so would need to be replaced, but I expect the corroded ones you have will be replaced anyway. The only risk is that you would snap them off. As long as this happened an inch or so above the block you could still remove them when the head was off.
Good luck
Don
