Running too cool

I believe the water pump is the original. I change the impeller annually in the spring and add grease to the cup. The amount of exhaust water seems normal. I guess I shouldn't complain since the engine runs fine!

I was considering either 1) partially closing the intake seacock valve thus metering the flow of raw water the the pump and engine (very carefully) or 2) adding a valve after the water pump but before the tee and bypass hose. I wonder if either would hurt the pump? I am inclined to try #2 as the valve would be easier to get to.
