Actually, the output shafts on the v-drive and regular transmissions are different. I am currently in the middle of the reverse operation -- putting a regular-drive engine on a v-drive.
The hard part about changing the output shaft seems to be pressing the reverse-gear off the shaft. I am planning to take mine to a machine shop today as there is no way I'm going to be able to do it at home in my garage. If you don't have the shaft they are a bit expensive too.
If your transmission is in okay condition I would be willing to swap my regular one with your v-drive one. Mine is in very good condition. Let me know if you are interested or you want more info.
