The reverse gear runs in the engine oil. It is a great setup and will outlast 2 engines if you keep it adjusted properly. I do not think it is ethical to use this forum to advertise so forgive me. I have a great manual on my site that is published in Canada. The wiring diagrams are great, best I have seen and it has line drawings of sections of some of the engine parts that make things look very clear. I have a no questions asked refund policy on it, I think it is that good. I sell it for less than anyone else I have seen. It is perfect size for the boat and takes the mystery out of this little antique engine. It is complete enough to be used as an overhaul manual. nuclearengine.com
