I can't help with the model number but only that a few years ago the old alternator on my '64 A-4 failed. It had an old style separate voltage regulatorlk mounted on a bulk head. I went down to my local marine alternator shop who sold me a rebuilt one with an an internal regulator. My impression was that this is standard these days. If in doubt about yours, any automotive or marine alternator shop should be able to test it for you. They should also be able to explain the wiring hookups but if my memory is correct you just have a + battery connecton, exciter and ground.
