I understand your reluctance but after I did it a couple of times I realized it was not that bad. If you don't have it already you should get a copy of Don Moyer's Overhaul Manual. He describes a through tear down and reassembly very well. Without it I used the Bendix instructions and had no problem but did not do a through enough cleaning. Just the carb cleaner that Don mentions is not always enough. In his manual Fig. 6 on page 4-4 shows an "Idle Passage" which is what I found most prone to plugging and needed cleaning to cure this problem. I used a thin wire in addition to blasting through it with carb cleaner using the plastic tube as Don mentions. You may not need to do all the diasssembly of jets that the manual covers.
