I had a 1973 A-4 in my Columbia 30 that had never been thouroughly serviced and was running unreliably. I thought about removing the engine myself, putting it in my station wagon and running it down to Moyer Marine to get their $3,500. rehab. The engine had a Walther V-Drive and was mounted backwards in the boat.
After visualizing all the things that could go wrong that would damage my boat or vehicle or end up with the engine overboard I hired a competant
mechanic who had all the right tools and equipment to do the job for me. His end was less than $1,500. and I paid that off with a few overtime shifts and had total peace of mind.
