I had the same problem occur this summer. We were motoring when the engine shut down as if the key had been turned. Eventually, I traced it to the wire lead connecting to the amp gauge. The connection had come loose, albeit only slightly. Once I cleaned the connection and retighted the nut, she ran like a champ.
