I converted a dry exhaust to waterlift a few years back. I'm surprised you have no muffler at all. It must be very loud.

Most modern boats with waterlift have diesel engines, and an important consideration for me was that the muffler be strong enough to withstand a backfire without bursting. This means the muffler should be metal, or fiberglass like a Vernay, and not polyethelyne like the Vetus.

I got my fiberglass Vernay from www.defenderus.com
Vernay had all the important details and sizing info.

Later I had to add an anti siphon break into the cooling water output. I thought I could get away without it... but it really was needed.
