A proper rebuild requires complete disassembly of the engine. If nothing else you would be unable to cleanup and inspect the block with it in the boat and the problems of access to the engine would probably put the labor costs out of sight. I have a 30 ft ketch and I doubt the Ranger has a much larger engine compartment.
My rebuild 4 years ago cost $2900. including about $1800. in parts costs including new pistons, valves, bearings, water pump and starter rebuild. The block was sent out to be acid cleaned. As I remember the cost for the yard to remove and reinstall the engine was a few hundred more.
