The rubbing block in the water pump can be bad even though it for all appearence looks fine.Have you a flush connection at the sea cock? Installing a garden hose fitting here is a must. with sea cock closed and hose hooked up pressure the system and see if you've got water out the exhaust, if not then the cooling sysytem is blocked either a bad thermostat, or rust accumilation in block, baking soda poured in through flush connection and let stand couple hours and flush with hose, Ithink it recommends this in the a4 manuel? The pump will push this solution into the block at idle, you might be able to clear it with the hose pressure if your lucky. With the cock open and engine off you can back flush the inlet in case you've sucked something into the inlet. First thing you've got is to install the flush connection if you dont already have one, how have you been putting the antifreeze through the motor during winter, are you south till you don't need to winterize?
