Dear Atomic 4 owners,

I'm a new owner of a 33 yr old atomic 4 ("recently rebuilt")and I'm embarassed to say I improperly winterized my A4 this fall: I did not get the engine sufficiently warmed up before adding antifreeze.

My questions are with the many months of below freezing temps (I'm in Maine) will my block most probably crack and what possibly else...; what is the best way to test the engine (compression?) for damage this spring; and finally if my worst fears are confirmed what must parts most probably would need to be replaced and the approximate cost.

I realise there are a number of hypotheticals here, and it's a long winter to agonize over one errors due to lack of experience, however I'm taking the approach to hope for the best while preparing for the worst.
