I've had the same problem with my 32 year old Atomic 4. But I'm sending it off for a rebuild at Moyer Marine, and hopefully that will cure it. Have you decarboned your engine? That seemed to help mine. It's a can you spray into your carburetor until it stalls. You let it sit a few minutes and then restart. You might try it.
