Subject:   No increase in RPMs when in gear and more trottle is applied

Message Posted

I have a 1973 A-4 that has been running fine until yesterday. It turned out the battery was
low and after a number of tries could not get it to turn over enough to start, so I purchased
a new battery and it started up fine. However, when I put it in forward gear it increased in
RPMs only up to a point. Beyond that it appeared as if the trottle was disconnected. Also,
the sound of the engine was different than before. While in gear it was deeper and more
muffled. This engine has always had a bit of a mis or hesitation. It runs fine out of gear and
appear to less affected in reverse.

Any Ideas?
